Calm Amongst the Chaos

Natalie Haas

This photo depicts a gloomy fall landscape. From the view across the river, a family of three can be seen crossing a bridge in a forest. They are surrounded by brown, orange and green trees.

For this piece, I directed my focus on my view of the city. During these past few months, I have felt extremely overwhelmed and isolated in the city. When I first moved to Toronto I was excited about a change of pace, but now that pace is becoming a bit too fast for me. As I took to the streets and observed the space I was living in, I began to find moments where a sense of quiet was found. Throughout this piece, I captured different moments where the city fell silent for a second. The cool-toned colours and softness of the piece not only appeared silent but fell silent. When viewing this piece I want the viewer to be able to receive a sense of relief, as a long exhale. Although this city is beautiful and filled with opportunity, sometimes you can get lost in all the chaos. It’s time we look and find our calm.
