Me, Myself and I

Me, Myself and I aims to underline the problems minorities face as a result of intersecting forms of

discrimination toward our communities. This project’s goal is to provide a voice and representation for people who are ethnic and queer and for me to investigate my cultural and political identities that have contributed to shaping who I are today. It is important to me that this project touches on multiple key topics because I am a complex, multifaceted human being. As an immigrant, I have battled and learnt to accept that I am a hybrid of two parts, that my identity is a result of the experiences caused by my displacement and by the culture I am immersed in today. As an androgynous brown woman, the representation of identity, my female identity, which does not conform to heterosexual norms, is vital for me to explore. My sexuality, which has encoded many assumptions about my personhood, is worth analyzing; dismantling these constructed concepts is essential to bring about noteworthy change in our society. Through this project, I want to provide the representation I craved for as a newly immigrated person. I want this project to help people, specifically minorities, to feel connected and seen. I want my work to inspire and embolden people of colour in the queer community to persevere, speak and create their truth. I want this thesis project to have a lasting impact, and this body of work is a step toward achieving this goal.
