Redefine is an ongoing series that “redefines” the narrative of the male gaze and how men see women as objects instead of individuals. The digital media industry is mainly male-dominated and a lot of work involving women is heavily sexualized. This is evident in media forms such as porn, tv shows and movies. The female “character” is referred to as weak and is directed towards male pleasure. These images are captured in my direction as a female photographer representing the female gaze. I sat down with a pair of friends, directed them to dress in the clothing that feels most comfortable to them and conversed with them throughout the photoshoot. I captured these women how they want to be seen, enhancing little details of their personalities in each photograph.
