Street Dreams

Angel E. Fonseca’s project, Street Dreams, is a photographic analogue series which explores the different aspects of car culture that can be experienced in Los Angeles. This series aims to create an interpretation that goes beyond the general public’s understanding of car culture. Angel’s goal is to showcase his perspective in a documentary style, demonstrating how car culture is more than just the physical vehicle. Many youths have a sentimental value with different types of vehicles, which enables unique connections within the car community, as well as between the vehicle and the owner. Through this connection, the vehicles become humanized without the owner’s conscious realization, occurring through the different types of accessories they add, the modifications to the design of the car, the fulfilment of driving a vehicle, and showcasing a vehicle to others. Street Dreams dives into a subculture that may be strange or out of reach for the general public, but common for those that are involved in the car community. Vehicles are seen as a second home, which Angel hopes to showcase through his art, exposing the curtain to an elusive culture, and educating the public on the deeper meanings behind these vehicles as Angel continues to explore the culture throughout his experiences in Los Angeles.

My name is Angel and I am a local Toronto & LA based photographer. I have been actively involved in the photography industry, taking photos since 2014. Photography is my outlet, which allows me to capture moments and emphasize the beauty of simplicity. I hope to encourage others to explore what is beneath the surface of everyday life – details that we don’t always notice. Through my photography, my goal is to deliver different perspectives of understanding life and further create discussion about what is often overlooked in today’s society
